Why Animation Reviews Matter — In Business and Beyond
We’ve all heard business gurus talk about the importance of reviews. Whether it’s a team debrief, a personal reflection, or a production check-in, the goal is the same: look at what’s been done, measure it against expectations, make adjustments, and move forward.
In the animation world this process is baked into the production pipeline. We recently shared a video on the animation review process for Worlds Apart (check it out here), which shows how common (and critical) reviews are in our everyday workflow. But it also got me thinking about how this concept of review extends far beyond just production.
As a boutique production studio it’s easy to get caught up in the exciting whirlwind of making stuff. But then comes the shock. The project wraps and there’s nothing lined up to continue on with. That’s when you realise the importance of reviewing not just what you’re creating, but how you’re planning for the future.
In production terms, this is called “ramp up and ramp down.” The danger? If there’s too much time between projects we risk losing our most valuable asset — our people. Talented artists are the heart of Remember Kate, and without them, we don’t have a studio. To keep them, we need inspiring projects. And to attract new work, we need to keep delivering great content. It’s a cycle and reviews keep that cycle moving.
So while the spotlight is usually on animation reviews and polishing each frame, there’s a quieter but equally important process going on in the background: reviewing our slate of projects, juggling timelines, and matching up the right people to the right stories.
It’s not just about meeting deadlines. It’s about staying alive creatively and operationally. And honestly? We love it. This is the kind of work that keeps us sharp, passionate, and always reaching for the next great idea.
