The person behind the pixels

About

Remember Kate Production is the work of Kim Allen — animator, director, and stubborn believer in making the shows you actually want to make.

Twenty years, and back to the fun part

After two decades working inside the animation and VFX industry, I stretched my creative wings and went back to what pulled me in to begin with: the quirky, fun and irreverent side of cartoon animation. The stuff that makes you laugh, or makes you a little uncomfortable, and doesn’t ask permission first.

Working in the industry that long puts you shoulder to shoulder with a lot of talented, generous people. Animation is collaborative by nature — helping others hit their goals is half the joy of it. That hasn’t changed. What’s changed is that I now point that experience at my own shows, and I build them out in the open.

Craft, in public

Most of what I make, I make where you can watch it happen — the writing, the reference, the animation, the wins and the dead ends. Partly because I think the craft is genuinely interesting. Partly because when people see the work behind a short, they stop assuming a machine made it.

So this is a channel and a studio for the working artist: someone who’s been around long enough to know the difference between polish and heart, and wants a bit of both. Craft breakdowns, commentary, and original shows like The Extinction Report and the one I’m building now, Dark Angel.

We don’t quit. And there’s something worth sharing in that.

Keep animating that entertains.
