As the hours turn into days, the days into months, and then into years, it’s important to celebrate the events that happen along the way.
Remember Kate hit a major milestone over the weekend: we held our very first Launch Party for Worlds Apart.
Did everything run perfectly? No — and honestly, I don’t think any event ever does. What you can do is roll with the obstacles and make the best out of each moment.
There were a lot of things we wanted to happen. It was exciting to make plans and dream big, but there was also a dangerous level of the unknown.
The venue wasn’t set up for launch parties. It’s a lovely space for gatherings, but we didn’t know if it would work for a streamed launch event. Did we have the tech to pull it off? Talking through what we had access to, we thought we had all the pieces. But getting those pieces to talk to each other—as anyone who works in IT will tell you—isn’t always easy.
During the lead-up week, we made the decision to do a test run.
The test run was an epic failure. We discovered the Wi-Fi connection didn’t have enough bandwidth to support streaming. The tech we had didn’t want to talk to each other, and the presentation itself lacked any clear structure. There was a lot of work to do.
So — we made a plan. Over the next few days the team worked hard to source what we needed and bring our big dream to life.
With just a couple of hours to go before the presentation, there were still unknowns. Even a direct link to the router didn’t lift the bitrate high enough to stream. We restructured the seating and made updates to the tech setup, and finally—we got the presentation running. And although we started late, the presentation was warmly received.
And with that, it was wonderful to celebrate our achievement: launching the first episode of Worlds Apart Season 2.
