Following Up Without Freaking Out: Tips for Introverts

Following Up Without Freaking Out: Tips for Introverts

The Introvert’s Guide to Following Up After Big Events

After a big event where you’ve met a lot of people (maybe more than you can remember!) and collected heaps of business cards or social contacts, what’s the best way to follow up?

As an introvert, this part of business can be the hardest. Whether I’m overthinking whether I made a good first impression, or simply unsure what the reason is to reach out, there are a million thoughts and insecurities that can get in the way.

But if you’ve already pushed through the discomfort of those first conversations, following up is just the next step in building the relationship you’ve started. It’s not a reset, it’s a continuation.

If you’ve ever worked in sales, you know how important it is to push past a “no.” It’s easy to take rejection personally, to think, they don’t like me. But most of the time, it’s not about you — it’s about how the message landed, or how confident you seemed in what you were presenting.

Confidence can be a performance, just like anything else. In fact, sometimes it’s more of an act than most jobs. But here’s the thing: no one else knows how to be you. The best thing you can bring to the table is an authentic version of yourself.

Even a simple, “It was great to meet you at [event name]” is better than silence. You never know what doors it might open.

It’s not about being perfect—it’s about showing up.

“You may never be perfect, but you still can be free.” — Pennywise, Still Can Be Free
