Read the AusFilm Media Release
For the first time ever, AusFilm has sent a cohort of Australian representatives to the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa) – and the impact is already being felt.
There’s a lot to be excited about in the Australian animation industry right now. From Adam Elliot’s Memoir of a Snail winning Annecy’s top feature prize last year and scoring an Oscar nomination, to the recent announcement of the Bluey movie making headlines worldwide – Australia is riding a creative high.
This year, three standout Australian projects are drawing major attention at the festival:
Lesbian Space Princess from We Made A Thing Studio Tales from Outer Suburbia, an upcoming anthology by Shaun Tan, Flying Bark and Highly Spirited Mr Legs from Studio Showoff
Together, these projects showcase the diversity, talent, and originality thriving in our local industry.
With 40 delegates travelling from across the country to attend Annecy, it’s been thrilling to see social feeds light up with behind-the-scenes glimpses, exciting updates, and the infectious enthusiasm of our peers.
This post is simply a cheer to everyone who’s made it to Annecy this year – and to all those supporting from afar. We are immensely proud of the stories we create and the voices we represent. Australia’s animation identity is bold, unique, and powerful. It’s an honour to share it with the world.
Here’s to the projects, the creators, and the growing global presence of Australian animation.
